Since 1999, I have held workshops/classes in tertiary colleges, secondary and primary schools throughout Wales under the auspices of the Welsh Joint Education Committee, the Education Departments of County Councils and the Arts Council of Wales.
Herewith a few examples:
1999 - Courses for secondary school students entitled 'Music and the related Arts' e.g. poetry, art, dance, contemporary styles (funded by the Arts Council of Wales).
2000 - Lecture and performance of Debussy's Preludes Book 1 (A level set work) at Meirion-Dwyfor Tertiary College.
2001 - Performance workshops in primary schools in North Wales - exploring aspects of ensemble work using percussion instruments alongside tuned instruments. Children encouraged to take part in ensembles, developing rhythmic and compositional skills. (Following the guidelines as set in the National Curriculum) Opportunities for several solo performances as well: discussions arising with regard to preparation for exams, eisteddfodau, how to combat nerves, how to practise etc.
2002-2003 - Performance workshops in secondary schools in North Wales for GCSE/AS/A Level students.
A one day course for Heads of Music of Flintshire secondary schools on the Welsh Curriculum (GCSE course) - the history of Welsh music in the 20th Century - vocal, instrumental, and orchestral music.
Three one day seminars for all the Heads of Music throughout Wales on aspects of the GCSE Music course - performing, listening and composing. Following on from these seminars, several invitations to individual schools to give half day workshops with the GCSE students. AS/A level coaching (Edexcel syllabus) - May 2002 and May 2003.
